Lantern Festival
Last Sunday, after arriving back in Singapore from KL at 8:30pm. I drop my bags and we (David and I) went to see the Lantern Festival @ bishan Park. This is my first time seeing Bishan park so 'smoky'. Why is it 'smoky'? A lot of people this year are using the traditional lanterns.
*pictures to be uploaded later*
While looking at the nice display of lanterns on trees, we stumbled on a very unique display on some small bushes. What do you think it is?
*pictures to be uploaded later*
.....Mosquito coils.
(I don't think mosquitoes will even bite or come out with all the smoke.)
Not only were there display of lanterns. There is also promotion for McDonalds.

* important note: 56K modem and uploading pictures is a painful combination.

Red-eye
At long last, David and I went to catch a movie @ J8 (yesterday)!
- Red-eye -
Pretty interesting movie. Exciting.
What I notice is that, they do the expected which is unexpected.
Chim?
E.g. You will normally expect like, oh..this and this will happen, even before the movie shows the next part. And normally it will happen and at the end of the show, the verdict is that the show is predictable.
Well, it is not predictable as it shows the expected, meaning not what we think the twist will be. There is not much twist, but because its the expected, it was unexpected which made it not-boring.
Do u get it ?
Mirror Mirror on the Floor?!
Wednesday till today was havoc. Won't tell you much on my work part. Generally they implemented something new internally and is causing a lot of pain.
(For the Greater Good)
A few minutes ago, I was walking from Bishan MRT to Granny's place. I was already super tired so I absent-mindedly just walk. No..I am still aware that the traffic light is red and not to cross when its red.
While walking, suddenly I heard a 'clink' and felt a sharp pain on my left toe.
There was a 4cm in diameter broken glass on the walking path and I strike lottery by kicking on it while walking.
Was I injured?
Sharp pain = of course there was a cut. Not very big, maybe 2mm cut. Small but blood started oozing out and well 'coloured' my white heels.
What to do? Rummage my bag for tissue paper to temporary bandage it.
"Why when you want to find something it is not there. When you do not want it, its ALWAYS there?" Think you can get the hint. No tissue paper to be found. Next available alternative, spectacle cloth.
Came home, use spirit to clean and handyplus bandage. And now blogging away my woes.
(David working today so can't manja)
So, you may ask,
what happened to the 4cm piece of glass? Is it :
A. I kicked it away from the side walk.
B. I stomped my heels and broke it to teeny weeny pieces
C. I brought it home as proof. (Don't want people to use my DNA. Afterwards go jail for no reason)
Curry Fish Head
Hungry anybody?
On Tuesday lunchtime, we (colleagues) went to eat Curry Fish Head at Telok Ayer St. It was packed with people and nearly all tables had ordered Curry Fish Head. But the service was fast...though...they repeatedly asked us how many of us are there.
Q. How many? (while they were finding tables for us to seat)
A. 7
Q. How many? (while they were finding tables for us to seat...)
A. 7
Q. Did you order Fish Head for 2?
A. SEVEN
Q. You ordered fish head for 4 right?
A. SEVEN!!!!
Anyway, the food was good. Loved the Curry fish, was so tender and non-fishy smell.
(note: I'm not much of a non-fried fish-eating person)
So today, we asked Granny to have a break and brought her out to eat Curry Fish Head.
No, we didn't go all the way to Telok Ayer St to eat. They had many branch. One of which is at Toa Payoh Lorong 8. By the way, its called 'Ocean Curry Fish' (that's what the shop is called)
Lo and behold, we manage to reach there by cab (separately, as David is coming from the east and i'm from the west). And search for the shop. Er... it was a coffee shop which is correct. But, it was a very very old coffee shop. Presentation in Telok Ayer St was a lot better. Perhaps the surrounding at Telok Ayer was brighter. But, the Granny complimented that the fish was good. so Yeah..!
Mission Accomplish. As long as Granny is happy.
Granny's advice : Curry Fish was good. The 2 vegetable and the pork chop is not nice.
Colleague's advice : Curry Fish was good. Vegetable was okay. Black squid is nice.

HDB Balotting Sep05
It's on again! This time location given are Bukit Merah and Toa Payoh.
With the above knowledge in mind, David and I went to scout around for the Toa Payoh flats without knowing the exact address.
I mean..how many new upcoming/completing flats can there be in Toa Payoh?
When we reached, we scanned and guessed where the flat could be.
There were 5 blocks (same area) opposite the library. It was pretty short, about 15-storey high and they have started painting it white.
15-storey, that's odd, pretty short. Perhaps its HDB regulation for that area that it shouldn't exceed a certain height.
Or, could this 'not' be the flat?
So we scanned again, and there was ANOTHER building nearer to HDBHub which is pretty tall.
Nah..not going to walk that far.
So we head home after a delicious laksa and rojak and goreng pisang/tapioca/green bean for tea/dinner to check the internet.
Guess what?
The 5 blocks that we saw opposite the library is the one posted for balotting.
But....
1. It is suppose to be 40-storey's high. (Why did they start painting then?)
2. It will only be completed in Year 2009?????
So did we apply?
What do you think? Make your guess... .. ..
Graduation!
Yipee! We have graduated from the 10-weeks of nursery-David Club! We need to complete 10 weeks of nursery (helping out) as part of our Pre-marital Counselling(PMC) course.
Well, it wasn't a core, it was very fun actually but quite taxing. David club is for 2 - 4 year old kids. When their mummy and daddy go to church, the come to David Club to learn about God.
Want to see the angels (kids)? and the guardian angels (helpers/teachers)?

The one with Elmo shirt is Lynn. She is one of the helpers. The boy in blue checks is Nathan. He is very very cute. I have his close-up smiling picture as my mobile phone's wallpaper. The older one is his brother, who is very sweet. He will come and pick Nathan after class.
The lady in green is the lead helper for 2nd service (church) - Adele.

Story telling is part of the nursery time.
The one in green again is Adele (acting as Zaccheus)and the one in white is Pastor Alex(acting as Jesus). The Story is about Zaccheus and Jesus. (Last week's story)

Normally we have around 50 + kids per session. Some are notorious/hyper but the rest are pretty cool and super cute.
The close-up picture is of Grace. She is very shy and quiet but her occasional smile melts hearts.

The helper team (as of last friday's session)
From left-backrow, youth helper, me, David, new PMC couple (1st time).
From left-frontrow, permanent youth helper-WanRu, permanent helper -Lynn, permanent helper-Adele, new PMC couple (1st time).
Normally there are only 6 helpers (during the interaction session) including myself and David. But on our last week, we were suprised to see two additional couples helping out, which is good. It will be more managable.
Too bad, we miss taking more kids photo. David's and my personal favourites (those I normally watch over) are Kelly, Brenda, Ian, Grace (above), Xiao Wen and many more.
Though the PMC - required session has been completed and we are somewhat relieved. Believe it or not, we intend to go back and visit. :)
That's it for now!
