House Hunting - Walk-In Selection - June2005

Watched Mr. and Mrs. Smith. Good movie. It is really interesting to see how much you can hurt the person and love the person at the same time. Watch the movie : especially the part where the house is being redecorated. Angelina Jolie, I just admire how she carry herself. I wonder what she use to maintain her hair?

This month, there is a Walk-In Selection in HDB for established towns. It started on 6th but we only went to get the queue number on 7th. We are queue number :2519. How many are available for selection? 1113 units. So we are only able to select any leftover available flats on Tuesday 14th.

Today, David and I went to scout around for potential flats. Potential as in, fits out budget, certain criteria and hopefully still available for selection when our turn comes.

Potential Flat 1: Upper Boon Keng Road
We took a slow walk to the place from Kallang MRT. Thank God that the weather throughout our scouting trip was fantastic. Very windy and cloudy. The place is on 4th storey, point-block. Spoke to the neighbour, Ivan who was very helpful. As this flat is tagged as RP - repossessed, meaning HDB took back the flat from the owner, it was very disturbing. Good news! No LOAN SHARK! But the location wasn't very convinient and there was a lot of construction going on and quite a distance to walk. So, don't look very safe for me to walk home at night by myself.

Potential Flat 2: Whampoa Drive
We walked from Boon Keng MRT, beautiful surrounding. The area was very well designed. Location was located on 20th floor (top floor). The lift stops on every floor. The highest number on the lift is 19th :P This time, the first thing we noticed is that it is facing the Central expressway. And yes, noise really travels upwards. Spoke to two neighbour, Mr Beh and another family downstairs. From their feedback it was 95% good. 5% bad. The bad? Noise.
Noise from CTE, noise from the school(occasionally) and noise from the nearby Community Centre who sings Karaoke every 3 months. But, they did mention that they got used to it.
It's an RP too. but no LOAN SHARK.

Potential Flat 3: Rowell Road
Its 7:30 by the time we left Whampoa Drive. We were quite beat after so much walking. Took a cab to Rowell Rd. When the cab stopped, my jaw dropped. Before we even stepped out of the cab, I told David, my answer is No. Downstairs of the flat, the road, everywhere were crowded with many Indians. I'm not against Indians, not at all. I'm currently renting a room from an Indian family and they are great! But I totally did not have any good feeling. Didn't even attempt to go up to the floor to have a look.

The result? Let's wait till Tuesday. If God say this is the flat we should get (Whampoa) then it will still be available for selection and there is no other reason that will pop up for us to reject it.

Hmm...what should we do about the noise? Can we live with it? To take or not to take (if any) that is the question. Is there a perfect house?
